Ian Wason is a British businessman and social entrepreneur, creating companies and building hope in some of the world’s most deprived communities. Ian has many years of experience in various areas of the financial industry and has founded and grown several of South Africa’s leading online financial services companies.
After graduating with a BSc in economics from the University of Bristol, Ian worked for the Financial Services division of Deloitte & Touche in London, where he qualified as a Chartered Accountant.
In 2003, Ian moved to Cape Town, South Africa, and worked as a consultant for 12 months at Business Beat, a Cape Town NGO founded by Deloitte, helping individuals start up and manage their own business.
Having decided to stay in South Africa, Ian started Intelligent Debt Management (The IDM Group) in 2004, which is now the largest debt management business in South Africa comprising the divisions; DebtBusters, BondBusters, InsuranceBusters and Consumer Debt Help.
Alongside The IDM Group, Ian has been the Director and Co-Founder of Just Money (Pty) Ltd, since 2007 and a non-executive Director of Habari Group since 2009. JustMoney.co.za is South Africa’s leading online financial services comparison website, providing comparison services on all financial products. He started the business in order to promote financial awareness amongst South African consumers.
These experiences have given Ian Wason an active passion for encouraging entrepreneurs, leading to his involvement with various organisations including the Young Presidents’ Organization (YPO).
